Kim is on the road this evening. She had to travel south for work so Willa, Charlie, and I have been holding down the fort. She asked if I could write a couple sentences about my thoughts on the Cafe Volcano Cookies (CVC) for her, but those thoughts turned into a full on post. Then I thought I might as well put her pictures up. Then I thought I'd just completely hi-jack her blog. So I'm either a nice husband for getting the writing part done for her or a creepy one who knows her Internet passwords. Either way, here goes the CVC post:

It was bound to happen. I’ve loved and devoured every amazing treat coming out of the pages of Dorie through our small kitchen. Leftover sweets never last long. Empty Tupperware containers litter the counters. Crumbs of cookies and tarts and cakes trickle down my chest. My enemies quake at my ability to decimate a pan of crownies. People move to the other side of the street when they hear me correctly pronounce pineapple dacquoise. All of these were consistent until today.

I came home late last night after another day in the recording studio to find a new Tupperware filled with treats waiting to meet my mouth. The CVCs waiting inside looked beautiful as I reached in to grab my first one. The first one was my last one. I was so sure the coffee flavor would win me over. Put the coffee label on anything and I’ll give it a try (and nine times out of ten I’ll love it). But even with my love of all things coffee and all things sweet, the CVC’s are still occupying their container on the counter while my enemies laugh at my inability to finish them in my normal zealous style. I’m not feeling these. From the texture to the taste, the small little lumps are destined for the mouth of the garbage can instead of my belly.

While I cannot stand behind the CVC's, I can stand behind every other cookie still occupying our kitchen table. I hope my family understands how hard it is for me to see the piles and piles and piles of sweet sweet cookie goodness, but practice restraint. Thank goodness we're mailing these out soon or my inner sweet monster would be seeking some kind of solace after the dissapointing CVC experience.
Thanks to Macduff from Lonely Sidecar for picking the recipe. I thought it sounded good and was completely behind you. Check out what the rest of the Dorie crew thought about these little guys.
P.S. From Kim - weren't these the most unphotogenic cookies you've ever seen. Seriously.
Yours look at least half way edible. Mine looked horrible but we liked them. :) Bummer that you didn't like them but what a sweet husband (and not creepy at all ) for writing the post for Kim.
ReplyDeleteKim--your cookies look great and I agree with your Hub's review. I didn't love these either..but glad I made them. For anyone who loves meringue--this is the cookie for them!
ReplyDeleteNope, not a bit photogenic. Do you think you make an appearance at work today? I miss you.
ReplyDeleteNever, never throw away cookies...I have a teenage boy who would love to help you out there...as a matter of fact, he devoured these before I could get my usual "taste tester" photo with him testing out the dessert. Sorry you did not care for these...maybe next week's Pecan Pie will be a hit! If not, Kim has my address, send it to Matt. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet that your hubby did this post for you. Mine is a genius around cars and things mechanical, but gets lost around the computer! Sorry these weren't a hit with you, but we thought they were pretty good over here. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the guest post! I'm sorry these cookies were a bummer for you guys. I agree, they're so darn ugly, but I actually enjoyed the way that they tasted.
ReplyDeleteI think they may have been so bad because I kind of burned them. Maybe that really ruined the flavor. They were just a little dark on the bottoms. I'll have to make Pete eat another one but just the top part and see what he thinks.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Kim did a great job of making them, so too bad that they weren't a hit.
ReplyDeleteKim-I burned some of mine and they're pretty bad, but the non-burned ones are good!
Wow, these look awesome. I wish I changed my mind and made these. But I ended up being in the mood for soft ginger cookies.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the guest posts from Pete! You guys are quite the team :) Honestly, I think your volcano cookies look good - at least they look like cookies. Mine looked like mountains of nuts. They wound up in the garbage here too.
ReplyDeleteoh, too bad...it says a lot when a guy doesn't like a cookie! hopefully you were able to pawn them off on someone else.
ReplyDeleteCute post - too bad they weren't loved.
ReplyDeleteI recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I think I will leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
