Sables = crazy delicious. I can't stop eating these delicious cookies. Sweets and I have not been friends for the past few weeks but I heart these cookies. I'm going to run off with them and we'll live together on a warm sunny beach with lots of margaritas. Pete can come too. He just has to realize that sables are number one.
These cookies are simple to make. They are similar to shortbread cookies hopped up on butter. The dough is supposed to be sandy and it came together okay. You then take the dough and shape it into two logs and refrigerate them. I then ran out of energy which is good because the dough logs have to chill in the fridge for at least three hours. I cut my first log into four equal sections and rolled each in a different sugar. I had red sugar, green sugar, white sugar and Pete's pick, a red and white peppermint flavored sugar. I tried my hardest to cut even circles but that skill continues to escape me. So these cookies are super original because they come in a lot of different and exciting sizes. I also slightly overcooked them. They do not resemble the perfection in the book but they taste good so I say these were a WINNER.
Because I'm lazy I didn't start rolling the dough in sugar until 4:30 on Sunday and totally blew any chance of taking pictures of these. Pete being the totally awesome dude that he is took these photos for me this afternoon while I was at work. I have one log of dough still chilling in the fridge which I think will be part of some Christmas cookie gifts.
Thanks to Barbara of Bungalow Barbara for picking these most wonderful cookies. Check out her blog for the recipe. Also head over to Tuesdays with Dorie to see all the other beautiful sables. If anyone has any extra sables they need to get rid of I'll take them off your hands.
