Erin from Dog is my Sous Chef and I decided to blog about a few of our favorite things as a needed distraction. At first I was drawing blanks and then I couldn't stop thinking of things. Some of these items would make nice gifts. Hint, hint, Mr. Pete.
All of the above items I have owned, currently own, or used to own and now covet. They are in no particular order. I also was not asked by the makers of any of these product to endorse these items or blog about them. (Unfortunately.) I just love this stuff.
1. Nikon D40 Digital SLR Camera. Last March I decided I wanted to start learning about photography and I really wanted a digital SLR. I wanted a basic digital SLR that wouldn't have a bunch of options that I probably would never learn to use. This has been the perfect camera to get me used to digital SLR photography without a huge price tag. It is my baby. Sometimes I let Pete borrow it if he is extra nice to me.
2. Simple Satire Hemp Sneakers (ecoSNEAKS). I bought these sneakers a year or two ago and they are still kicking. They are eco-friendly and vegan in case that was a concern. The sole of the shoe is recycled tire and the laces are made from recycled soda bottles. Besides being earth friendly these sneakers are super comfortable and cute. My only complaint is that the laces take after Houdini and can even escape from double knots. Sneaky laces. Pete has a similar shoe made for men and he loves them too.
3. Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Deodorant/Antiperspirant. My sister-in-law turned me on to this deodorant and it has been a favorite ever since. Although it has a steep price tag it really works and the container lasts for several months. It has a nice scent that isn't too overpowering and it provides protection all day.
4. Archipelago Botanicals Signature Soy Wax Candles. These candles are a total splurge purchase. A few times over the past couple of years I've been given one of these candles as a gift and I adore them. They have the best smells. One of my favorites is the bergamot tobacco flavor. So yummy. I wouldn't mind if a couple of these candles found their way into my stocking.
5. 7 for all mankind Dojo wide-leg jeans. These jeans are expensive. BUT they fit awesome and I wear them almost every day (ask Erin). I'm actually wearing them right now. I used to think that it was a waste of money to pay so much for denim, but I noticed I was buying a lot of jeans at Old Navy and other places that were cheap but didn't fit right. I would never wear them and they would just collect dust in the closet. With these jeans I have more than got what I paid for. It is going to be a sad day if I outgrow them.
6. Mountain Hardware Monkey Woman Fleece Jacket. This fleece jacket is my favorite fleece jacket and I have a few. When I bought it new it was so soft. After a year's worth of wear and some washings it is still keeping me all snuggly and warm. I also like that it has monkey in the name.
7. Rice heat pack/sack. My little sister made me a sack similar to the one shown as a gift. She filled hers with rice and flax seed and some essential oils for scent. I warm my sack up every night before bed and cuddle with it while I sleep. The rice and flax seed retain heat and keep me warm for hours. It's also nice to put on a sore neck or lower back. Pete has started stealing it to use on our pup Willa in the afternoon for extra warmth. She loves it too. The link is to a blog with a wonderful tutorial on how to make your own.
8. KitchenAid Stand Mixer. My KitchenAid stand mixer is my savior. It keeps me sane in the kitchen and helps me make cookies, bread and anything else I can think of. I also go into a kind of sad shock when I have to bake without it. There are all sorts of different versions out there with different price tags. It really is the perfect gift for any baker. Mine is white but I covet all those wonderful new colors they offer.
9. Alba Botanica Very Emollient Body Lotion. I use this lotion everyday when I get out of the shower. I have dry skin and if I forgo lotioning my skin is itchy and angry all day, making me sad. You can find this lotion at Target and Whole Foods and surprisingly it is cheaper at Whole Foods. I like the unscented version so it doesn't battle perfume if I decide to wear some.
10. SmartWool Socks. These socks keep my feet warm and happy. I usually try to find them on clearance so I have all sorts of neat colors. Pete really loves the running sock.
11. Love Actually. I adore this movie. I watch it every year around Christmas and it always gives me a warm feeling. Last year I watched it once and then immediately restarted it for a second round.
12. Penzeys Spices. Penzeys has the best spices. They have wonderful spice blends, like Fox Point Seasoning that tastes like heaven on potatoes. Their spices are affordable and can be bought in bulk. To save some money I like to buy my spices in bulk and then split them with family.
