Cottage cheese pufflet dough vs. Kim? After a knock down drag out fight which left me teary eyed I must give the win to the dough. This dough is not hard to make it is just very susceptible to warmth when you try to work with it. Meaning if you breath on it, look at it sideways, or even just exist, it turns into mush.
I tried to combat the dough's fickleness by rotating the dough into the fridge to chill. This dough was too smart for that. I shall call it "impossible to please dough." The dough issues were not helped by my inability to cut/draw a straight line. I wasn't born with that gene (because being able to draw a straight line is inherited and part of your DNA, like hair color. Seriously, I'm not making this up.). I used my best squares for the pictures but I wanted to keep it real and let you see what the majority of my pufflets looked like. Pufflets only a mother could love.
I made half the puffllets with yummy peach conserves and the other half with a gorgonzola, honey and walnut filling.
Luckily these pufflets tasted awesome. If I had battled with that dough for nothing I would be a bit more peeved. Pete said the dough was awesome, I thought it was radical, Willa said it was bodacious and Charlie said cowabunga. He just finished watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. One of his favorites. Pete's favorite pufflet was the gorgonzola mixture.
Both the peach and gorgonzola turned out yummy. I have some in the freezer calling my name. I will tackle this dough again and win. I will probably wait for the coldest day this coming winter and open all the windows in the house and turn on the air conditioner before I attempt this again. Here is Charlie screaming for some more. I limited him to one because of his diet and he was having none of it. He is similar to this dough. Impossible to please.
Thanks to Jacque of Daisy Lane Cakes for picking this most delicious recipe. Check out her blog for the recipe. Also head over to Tuesdays with Dorie and check out what the other bakers did this week. I'm sure you will see some better looking pufflets.

My cat also loved these, though she only got the pastry dough and not the filling. I also had the hardest time with the dough! It was a battle. Glad you enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteI've recently decided that I need a kitty, and the pictures of Charlie are strengthening my resolve to have a little feline attitude in my life. My dog is a serious cat hunter though, and I'm not sure how to resolve the two.
ReplyDeleteOn to the pufflets, my dough got the W this week, too. Yours look wonderful, and the gorgonzola filling was such a fantastic idea!
OMG, I love that picture of Charlie! Soo cute and funny!
ReplyDeleteI think your pufflets turned out fantastic! I love that you were able to have a lot more filling than the apple turnovers too. How did you come up with the gorgonzola mixture? Sounds really tasty!
My dough is still in the refrigerator. I'm afraid of it... HAH! I had a difficult time with the apple turnovers so I'm expecting moreso this time around. Sheesh.
LOL LOL Looks like the cat wants more Kim!! LOL
ReplyDeleteBut of course with such cute little mini pufflet books! wow! Definatly too darn cute to eat! huh? Oh! Ya... but if I must... you can send them at: 6643 27th road.
Love that cat!
ReplyDeleteI also love those pufflets!
You're good.
Yummy. The shapes are so creative :)
ReplyDeleteYour pufflets look great! I agree, they were soooo delicious. I bet the gorgonzola mixture was divine!
ReplyDeleteIf all I saw was the first photo, I'd think you were a baking genius! LOVE this post, laughed a lot. I'm glad the taste made the (considerable) effort worth it for you. Give me "dog" dough anyday - none of this finicky "cat" type stuff for me!
ReplyDeleteYou can really see the flaky layers in your photos! And Charlie is a pufflet all on his own.
ReplyDeleteLOL - bodacious and cowabunga are great descriptions of your mavellous sounding fillings. Wanut and gorgonzola would have been perfect with this dough. BTW, I think you won in the end.
ReplyDeleteCharlie looks worn out from the battle with the dough! These won me over, too, but I still bear the trauma of making them into a shape, any shape, that would sort of hold together.
ReplyDeleteYep, those two were perfect! I had a little giggle over the photo of the one of them all on the tray...mine were a lot like that, too. I tried for triangle but only managed "triangle-esque." Love the photo of Charlie...it looks like he is echoing your time with the dough making...LOL.
ReplyDeleteWhoa...the Gorgonzola filling sounds FANTASTIC! Very great idea. I skipped this week and it sounds like I didn't miss much in the way of the dough. :o)
ReplyDeleteyour puffs look perfect! exactly what I thought these should look like. The fillings you chose also sound fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of Charlie asking for more! :D Your other pictures are fabulous! The pufflets looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like this worked out pretty well for you, despite the difficult dough. Love the photo of Charlie!
ReplyDeleteThey look gorgeous! The walnut-gorgonzola combo sounds especially delicious. I'm afraid I didn't get very creative with this one.
ReplyDeleteYOur puffs look puffy and tasty:)..I love the kitty..very cute picture! I liked this recipe but had a time with the dough too..Im glad the finished product was good! Next weeks TWD looks very tasty!
ReplyDeleteI love your flavor combinations!!
ReplyDeleteOoh, your gorgonzola, honey, walnut filling sounds fabulous! It's been disgustingly humid here so I didn't make these, but will this winter. Is Charlie a character or what? Too cute!
ReplyDeleteYou're too funny! Sorry this dough was anything but fun-ny. I'm so happy you liked them in the end. (I'm so glad most people liked them or there might have been a community of bloggers calling for my head on a stick, LOL.) Your pufflets look so flaky and light.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, what a beautiful cat. He's a lucky boy.
Thanks for baking along this week.
whoa--charlie has some fangs! i'd give that guy anything he wants, just out of fear! the cheesey filling sounds delicious!!
ReplyDeleteYour pufflets look fantastic! The gorgonzola filling sounds delicious - great idea! I agree they were delicious.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of your cat is so cute!
Sounds like they were a hit in your house. good deal.
ReplyDeleteThey look amazingly delicious.
