TWD: vanilla ice cream and a lesson in karma

Photobucket

Do you believe in Karma? Pete made me a nice dinner and while he was cleaning up I decided I was going to make my vanilla ice cream. He was heading out to the BBQ to hang the utensils back on it when he yelped and started talking about the pain in his foot and leg. Oh, the pain was intense. It was really hurting. He demanded I stop what I was doing so he could show me exactly how he hit the door so I could understand how much he hurt. I went to the door and he reenacted his injury while I made faces and laughed at him. He continued to exclaim about the pain. I told him he was always in pain because he can't walk two feet without tripping, falling, or banging into something. (Seriously, we live on the second level and he trips running up the stairs at least every other day.) This is his life. I went back to the kitchen to get my ice bath ready for the custard still making fun of him about his injury. I was shoveling ice out of the freezer with a cup when a stray ice cube escaped and fell five feet onto my toe. OUCH! Oh the pain. I screamed and cried a little and couldn't stop talking about my pain and how much it hurt. I was yelling about feeling it in my heart because whenever I smash/bang/hit a finger or toe the pain always goes to my heart. I snuggled myself against Pete's chest and said, "Do you think this is Karma? Because I do." He laughed and asked for a full reenactment of the accident so I explained what I was doing and how the ice cube fell five feet onto my toe. He laughed at me but still cuddled me and kissed my head. So that will teach me to laugh at Pete when he hurts himself. Next time (trust me there will be a next time) I'll just give him some cuddles and ask for a reenactment with a straight face.

Here is a picture of the ice bath that caused all the pain. Stupid ice bath. So worth it though for the delicious ice cream.

Being on a budget I couldn't bring myself to spend the extra money on a vanilla bean. I think it would of made this ice cream that much better. It was so creamy and delicious. Everyone over here loved it.

Our favorite treat this past week has been rootbeer floats with homemade ice cream. So delicious. Nothing like a creamy rootbeer float after a long day at work.

Charlie, aka Chubby, enjoyed the ice cream too. Pete and I were trying to see if we could lift him with one arm. I cannot. Pete can. He's a hefty boy, that Charlie. Let it be a warning that if you eat all that ice cream pictured above you could look like this. Next thing you know people will be lifting you up to see if they can hold you with one arm. Never fun.

Thanks to Lynne of Cafe LynnyLu for picking out this week's treat. Great pick. Check out her website for the recipe. Also, head on over to Tuesdays with Dorie to check out what all the other ice cream makers did this week.

While you are enjoying browsing all the wonderful blog posts this week I will be sitting in some cold drafty conference room in Las Vegas taking the Nevada State Bar Exam. Be jealous. I will comment and return comments when I rejoin the world of the living on Thursday night. I so cannot wait till Thursday night.

  8. I love root beer, but I've never had a root beer float before! Yours looks delicious, and I sort of wish that I had some ice cream and root beer to try it out. What a great way to enjoy this ice cream.
Good luck in Nevada this week!

  9. Awww, your poor toe. Your Charlie is sooo cute. Our cat Dora is super fat. We realized she was eating butter everyday and licking my grandma's ice cream dish every night. Good luck with your exam and congrats in advance!

  12. I am pretty known for banging my toes A LOT. My husband just shakes his head in amazement. Course as much as I bake/cook, you'd think I also wouldn't burn or cut myself as much as I do either. Ice cream is a cure all everytime.
    This vanilla is awesome!
And for goodness sake, good luck on that little exam! ;)

Root Beer Floats - what a great idea! I've been saving our last bottle of Fresno State root beer for something special...
(Karma reminds me of Boy George, which totally dates me but o, well!)
