Mmmmm...brownies. I love brownies. Homemade brownies, brownies from a box, brownies made in the microwave, I really don't discriminate against brownies. There really isn't a better treat than a yummy brownie and a cold glass of milk. I have renamed these "frowny brownies." Why? Check out the picture below. Is that brownie not frowning? He looks like a little grumpy gremlin. He is cranky because I wouldn't share my milk with him.
Grrrrrrr. He is a real grump. Someone should just eat him and put him out of his misery.
Another reason you could call these frowny brownies is that if you eat more than just one you will have a tummy ache. Tummy aches = frowns. Pete's comment this morning was "if I eat more than one of these I'll vomit." Precious. He is a joy to bake for.
I made these exactly as the recipe says. No modifications for me this week. I didn't want to buy instant coffee so I used a small amount of instant espresso powder instead, but I don't count that as a modification. I put the cinnamon in and after tasting these guys I wish I could take the cinnamon out. Not a fan of the chocolate and cinnamon flavor.

The frowny brownie is also excellent with a little ice cream. (A sneak peak at a future recipe.) Ice cream will turn your frown upside down. Another thing that will make you smile are the animals. They took a break last week from their celebrity status on my blog. But they are back and cuter than ever.

First is Charlie. His looks are deceiving. He is a true frowny brownie. One of his favorite activities is biting me.
Little Willa could never be frowny. She always has a smile on her face. (I realized after I took her photo that Willa was sporting some eye boogers. My apologies, I usually wipe her face. She is very embarrassed.)
Thanks to the TWD logo contest winner, Lisa, from Surviving Oz for picking out these treats. Check out her blog for the full recipe. To check out some more frowny brownies go to Tuesdays with Dorie and look what all the other bakers did this week.

One bite will definitely turn that frown upside down. I went with only a pinch of cinnamon and that was plenty.
ReplyDeleteLove your animal babies!
I wouldn't be frowning after those brownies! And I LOVE your cat and dog. LOVE them. Gorgeous family!
ReplyDeleteWilla is looking especially beautiful : ) I cannot support your use of nuts or coffee, but they sure do look yummy!
ReplyDeleteKim, your blog is BAD ASS!
ReplyDelete:)
Those brownies look absolutely DIVINE. All fudgy and gooey. I love it!
De-licious! Love the frowny. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteAnd your aminals. I just want to give kisses under that chin of Charlie. (We had lots of cats all growing up, then all the sudden, out of nowhere, when I was 16 I became VERY allergic to my sweet little kitty! Sigh. Now when I walk into a home, I know instantly if they have cats or not. So sad. That's life, eh.
There would be no frowns here from the guys with these brownies...they look like they would be gone in no time! I left out the cinnamon, too, as they think it is strange to put cinnamon and chocolate together and have requested no more of that ever...LOL. Cute pet photos!
ReplyDeleteBrownies = happiness! I don't discriminate, either!
ReplyDeleteLove the pet pix - too cute.
Kim! Of course I remember you! How are you??? What a small world! Your brownies look great and I love your photography!
ReplyDeleteYour brownies look delicious! Beautiful pictures. I love these, too. I love your cat and your dog!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I have to say...these brownies made me smile!! Your post is so cute, and I think your brownies look incredible!! And topping with ice cream just makes em better!
ReplyDeleteYour brownies look fabulous! YUM.
ReplyDeleteThe brownies had me (they look so good!) but then I saw Charlie. If he ever wants to move to San Jose, tell him he has a home with me!
ReplyDeleteLove your post... and the brownie pics! Perfection! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd you went ahead and made them more rich by adding ice cream! They look delicious - mine weren't that tall.
ReplyDeleteLOL - your brownies look delish, not at all frowny, especially in that top shot with the gooey chocolate visible.
ReplyDeleteI love all the nicknames you come up with on our baking treats!
ReplyDeleteYour frownies look absolutely fudgy-licious! (Whereas I'm not so good at making up food adjectives...)
That picture of Charlie is amazing - his eyes! But I'll always have a soft spot for Willa!
Frowny there was probably just sad knowing that his life was destined to be very, very short! :)
ReplyDeleteYour brownies look PERFECT!
WOW! You took the pictures right out if the oven huh? They look extra, extra, extra amazing.
ReplyDeleteI tried to be wise and get a nice cut after putting them a while in the fridge. duh. no melting chocolate.
Hummm... I'm reading these days about animals, cats in particular, trying to figure out if they can think (really as cogitate, and not just memorize stuff that happens to them or use their instincts, etc.). I don't belive they do, my bubbie thinks they do... what do you think?
P.s.: Bitting usually comes from males, either as a sexual let out (especially in neutered cats) or as vengence coming from flashback it has... like that time you didn't feed him that brownie it was eyeballing or when you made it do the dishes, ya know...
those brownies would turn any frown upside down. and so would charlie...he has the most beautiful eyes
ReplyDeleteCute pictures of your furry family. That cat has amazing eyes!! And that brownie does look like it's sporting a frown. Eating them with ice cream was a very smart thing to do!
ReplyDeleteSo many cute pictures in this post! I especially love the frowny brownie--no need to frown when eating these. :) Your cat is beautiful, too.
ReplyDeleteBet that is dorie's vanilla. I made the chocolate to go with the brownies. They are both delicious.
ReplyDeleteThose look really good-frowns and all.
Oh, I love the cute animals! My dog gets eye boogers quite a bit so I'm always wiping them off, too. Lovely brownies and I agree that they're quite rich. Too many of these brownies will make you frowny!
