TWD: applesauce spice bars

Photobucket

Procrastination seems to be my middle name lately. I waited until Monday night after work to make these applesauce spice bars and ended up taking pictures of them around 8:00 (hence the blue tint). I don’t even have a good excuse for putting them off. I totally could have made them on Sunday but I was too busy lounging on the couch recovering from margarita night at Erin’s. I must blame Erin for my laziness. Her margaritas were too good. I also blame Pete for letting me do this.

Cigar mouth Sunday morning was not pleasant. So there are my excuses. I’m sure you’re thinking I’m just lazy and I’m that too. But the story has a happy ending. I did make the bars. I halved the recipe since it’s just Pete and me. Charlie is no help now that he is on a self-imposed diet. He wants to get back to fighting weight. Good luck chunky cat.

I made the recipe as directed but substituted walnuts for pecans and did not add applejack. I was fresh out.

I made a full recipe of the glaze because I was too lazy to try and half it. My brain does not want to mess around with fractions at night and I really wanted to watch True Blood so I was in a hurry.

Pete really liked these. He said they were yummy approximately 1,000 times. So I guess I’ll believe him. I liked them. Not my most favorite but I wouldn’t say no if someone offered me one. I will be enjoying these for breakfast for the next couple of days. I’m thinking they probably get better with age.

Thanks to Karen of Something Sweet for picking this week's winner. Head on over to her blog for the recipe. Check out Tuesdays with Dorie to see what all the other wonderful baker's did this week. Let me know if anyone else is smoking cigars. Damn margaritas.

  1. Oh, all this drippy glaze is making me nuts...I really liked that glaze and you all suggesting that you double (or don't halve) the amount is NOT HELPING in the willpower department. I am going to pretend I did not see this and I do not know about this because these bars will get plenty of play time during apple orchard season, I'm sure, as they are that easy and delicious. You with the cigar is just so darn funny...I just giggled when I saw that shot! So much fun.

  2. I'm procrastinating right now, sitting on my buns at the computer when I should be getting the 5 year old ready for school. We'll see how that goes--getting him there on time! Sigh!
    I'm tired. So sue me.
Oh, I could just go have an apple spice bar-that'll get me going! :) Great job.

  14. Nothing comes before True Blood! So good... so sad this season is almost over.

I bet the applesauce bars covered up cigar mouth quite nicely! You can be like the gum lady... what are those commercials? Where she is like "Dirty mouth? Clean it up with..." Ha!
